Ballard secures 50 MW fuel cell engine order from New Flyer
Ballard Power Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: BLDP) announced a commercial agreement with New Flyer, a subsidiary of NFI Group Inc., for 500 FCmove-HD+ fuel cell engines totaling 50 MW.
The engines will power New Flyer's Xcelsior CHARGE FC hydrogen fuel cell buses across North America, with deliveries beginning in 2026. The company stated this represents the largest single commitment from New Flyer since their partnership began.
"We are proud that New Flyer continues to place their trust in Ballard as their long-term technology partner, building on a relationship that spans more than a decade," said Oben Uluc, Ballard's Sales & Marketing Vice President.
David White, Executive Vice President of Supply Management at New Flyer, said the agreement advances their fuel cell bus offerings and supports the transition to zero-emission transportation.
According to the press release, Ballard-powered fleets include more than 2,200 fuel cell buses worldwide that have logged over 250 million kilometers with 98% availability. The company offers additional fleet services including training, technical support, parts supply, and operational monitoring.
New Flyer operates as North America's heavy-duty transit bus manufacturer and currently supports over 35,000 heavy-duty transit buses in service, of which 8,600 are powered by electric motors and battery propulsion and 1,900 are zero-emission vehicles.
The agreement information was disclosed in a press release statement from both companies.
