Oppenheimer Reiterates Perform Rating on BioNTech (BNTX) following management changes
Oppenheimer analyst Hartaj Singh reiterated a Perform rating on BioNTech (NASDAQ: BNTX)
The analyst commented, "BNTX's 4Q financial results and pipeline updates were overshadowed by the announcement that co-founders Uger Sahin and Özlem Türeci are leaving the company to form a new independent company focused on next-generation mRNA innovations, sending the shares down as much as 20% on 3/10 (vs. NBI: +0.3%). While we had suspected potential strategic changes, including spinning the mRNA portfolio, this level of leadership transition came as a total surprise, especially considering that BNTX is entering a transitional period with multiple late-stage programs maturing. Despite the growing number of clinical trials for pumitamig and ADC programs with multiple clinical catalysts ahead this year, this new dynamic may introduce uncertainty and pressure on BNTX shares in the near term, and we remain on the sidelines for now."
