IFF opens enzyme production hub in Argentina, application lab in Brazil

March 10, 2026 4:30 PM

International Flavors & Fragrances Inc. (NYSE: IFF) announced the establishment of its first fermentation-based enzyme production hub in Latin America at its Arroyito site in Argentina, along with the opening of a household care application laboratory at its Innovation Center in Brazil.

The Arroyito facility transformation enables IFF to produce enzymes locally from the initial biological stage rather than relying on final processing and packaging steps. The company stated this approach will improve performance reliability, increase processing efficiency and enable faster adjustments for customer needs across brewing, animal nutrition, biofuels and home care applications.

The new household care application laboratory in Brazil supports laundry and dishwashing applications, allowing customers to evaluate and optimize enzyme performance under regional conditions. The facility enables faster testing, improved formulation accuracy and closer collaboration with customers developing cleaning products.

"This is about turning science into impact where it matters most," said Letícia Gonçalves, president of IFF Health & Biosciences. "By bringing world‑class fermentation and application capabilities to Latin America, we are accelerating innovation for our customers."

Deia Vilela, vice president of Latin America for IFF Health & Biosciences, described Latin America as a dynamic growth market for bioscience-enabled solutions. The company characterized the region as one of its fastest-growing markets.

IFF's fermentation technology enables production of enzymes through controlled biological processes. The company stated these enhancements are expected to improve speed, reliability and locally relevant solutions for regional markets.

The investment builds on IFF's four decades of industrial biotechnology experience and positions the Health & Biosciences business to serve food, home and personal care, animal nutrition and bio-industrial markets in the region, according to the company's press release.
