Cassava Sciences changes name to Filana Therapeutics

March 10, 2026 8:00 AM

Cassava Sciences Inc. (NASDAQ: SAVA) announced it will rebrand as Filana Therapeutics Inc., with the new ticker symbol "FLNA" beginning trading on the Nasdaq Capital Market on March 11, 2026.

The Austin, Texas-based biotechnology company said the name change reflects its focus on developing medicines to modulate the filamin A protein for treating central nervous system disorders, particularly tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC)-related epilepsy.

"The launch of Filana Therapeutics represents a new beginning for our Company," said Rick Barry, president and chief executive officer. "Growing evidence suggests that filamin A is an important regulator of neuronal development and that modulating filamin A may provide a new approach to treating CNS disorders such as TSC-related epilepsy."

TSC is a rare genetic disorder caused by mutations in the TSC1 or TSC2 genes, affecting the mechanistic target of rapamycin pathway and causing tumors in multiple organs. According to the company, epilepsy affects 80% to 90% of TSC patients, with TSC-related epilepsy impacting approximately 45,000 people in the United States. The company stated that more than 60% of TSC patients remain refractory to antiepileptic therapy despite multiple approved treatments.

The company said most patients begin experiencing seizures within their first year of life. Filana Therapeutics focuses on diseases associated with dysregulation or overexpression of filamin A.

The information is based on a company press release issued March 10, 2026.
