Ceva launches IEEE 802.15.4ab-compliant UWB IP for extended range

March 10, 2026 6:00 AM

Ceva Inc. (NASDAQ: CEVA) announced the launch of its Ceva-Waves UWB IP, which the company describes as the industry's first IEEE 802.15.4ab-compliant Ultra-Wideband intellectual property solution.

The new IP delivers up to 30 times extended ranging capabilities and four times faster data rates compared to previous versions, according to the company's announcement. The solution targets applications in secure access, positioning, radar sensing and data communications across consumer, automotive and industrial systems.

The technology incorporates multi-millisecond ranging techniques that combine UWB-based and narrowband-assisted architectures. Ceva states the solution maintains backward compatibility with IEEE 802.15.4z deployments while adding support for enhanced sensing and data communications features introduced with the IEEE 802.15.4ab standard.

According to ABI Research data cited in the announcement, UWB shipments exceeded 563 million units in 2025 and are projected to surpass 1.4 billion annually by 2030. "The transition to IEEE 802.15.4ab will be pivotal in enabling longer-range, lower-power and more robust deployments across consumer, enterprise and industrial markets," said Andrew Zignani, Senior Research Director at ABI Research.

Ceva is collaborating with LitePoint on early validation phases to develop test and measurement solutions for the IEEE 802.15.4ab standard. The partnership aims to ensure interoperability and accelerate time-to-market for device manufacturers.

The Ceva-Waves UWB IEEE 802.15.4ab IP is available for licensing and integrates with the company's wireless connectivity portfolio, including Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, cellular IoT and 5G IP solutions.
