GlobalFoundries launches eMRAM technology for automotive chips

March 9, 2026 8:31 AM

GlobalFoundries (NASDAQ: GFS) announced the availability of its AutoPro150 embedded magnetic RAM technology on the company's FDX platform for automotive applications. The technology is now available for prototyping, with volume production scheduled for the second half of 2026 at the company's Dresden manufacturing site.

The FDX+AutoPro150 eMRAM technology offers endurance up to 500,000 cycles, sub-10 nanosecond read speeds, and operates reliably in temperatures up to 150°C. The technology is designed for automotive-grade applications and addresses magnetic field effects in harsh environments.

The embedded memory technology targets use in microcontroller units for software-defined vehicles and advanced driver assistance systems. Current applications include real-time processing for safety-critical functions and over-the-air updates in automotive systems.

"With the introduction of our Auto Grade 1 ready FDX+AutoPro150 eMRAM platform, GF is raising the bar for embedded memory performance in the most demanding automotive and industrial environments," said Ed Kaste, senior vice president of GlobalFoundries' ultra-low power CMOS business.

Bosch expressed support for the technology launch. "MRAM is a technology at the edge of automotive innovation, providing speed, endurance and reliability that will help next-generation MCUs for software-defined vehicles," said Dr. Dominik Erb, vice president of digital semiconductor roadmaps and operations at Bosch.

A process design kit for the technology is available through GlobalFoundries' GF Connect portal. The company manufactures semiconductors in facilities across the United States, Europe, and Asia, according to the press release statement.
