HIMS partners with Novo Nordisk, shifts US weight loss strategy
Hims & Hers Health Inc. (NYSE: HIMS) announced a collaboration with Novo Nordisk to provide customers access to FDA-approved GLP-1 medications, marking a strategic shift in its US weight loss business model.
The partnership will bring Ozempic (semaglutide) injections in 0.5 mg, 1 mg, and 2 mg doses and Wegovy (semaglutide) pills and injections to the platform later this month. Wegovy offerings will include 1.7 mg or 2.4 mg injections and tablets in 1.5 mg, 4 mg, 9 mg, and 25 mg doses.
Under the new strategy, Hims & Hers will no longer advertise compounded GLP-1 offerings on its platform or in marketing materials. The company stated it will offer compounded semaglutide on a limited scale only when providers determine that FDA-approved options cannot meet specific clinical needs.
Existing patients using compounded medications will have the opportunity to transition to FDA-approved medicines when their providers deem it clinically appropriate, according to the company's statement.
"We see tremendous growth opportunities in the US with the expanding assortment of branded GLP-1 medications," said Andrew Dudum, co-founder and CEO of Hims & Hers.
The companies indicated they hope to collaborate on bringing additional products to market as they become available. Hims & Hers will continue providing support services including provider access, nutrition guidance, and clinical check-ins alongside treatments.
Concurrent with the announcement, Novo Nordisk dismissed its lawsuit against Hims & Hers without prejudice. The collaboration aligns the company's US operations with its global approach to weight loss treatments.
Hims & Hers entered the US weight loss market in 2023. The company cited industry progress that has made FDA-approved GLP-1 treatments more accessible and affordable with varied dosing options and form factors.
