Oklo signs collaboration pact with Idaho National Laboratory for fuel research

November 11, 2025 4:00 PM

Oklo Inc. (NYSE: OKLO) signed a memorandum of understanding with Battelle Energy Alliance to expand collaboration on advanced fuel and materials research with Idaho National Laboratory.

The agreement builds on Oklo's partnership with INL and plans to utilize the company's first commercial power plant, Aurora-INL, for research purposes. The Aurora facility is designed for power production but can also generate fast neutrons for in-reactor irradiation experiments that will be analyzed at INL's Materials and Fuels Complex.

Under the memorandum, Oklo and INL will collaborate on irradiation of advanced nuclear fuels and materials during Aurora-INL's operating life. The resulting data aims to advance U.S. fast reactor capabilities and nuclear fuel manufacturing.

"This collaboration strengthens U.S. leadership in advanced nuclear and demonstrates how Oklo's model of deploying fast reactors can also accelerate learning," said Jacob DeWitte, Oklo co-founder and CEO.

The collaboration stems from ongoing work supported by the U.S. Department of Energy's Advanced Fuels Campaign and a recent project under the DOE's Gateway for Accelerated Innovation in Nuclear program. The previous work helped Oklo and INL test design and logistical strategies for incorporation into the Aurora Powerhouse.

Oklo broke ground on Aurora-INL on September 22, 2025, as part of the DOE's Reactor Pilot Program, which was created in response to executive orders aimed at accelerating advanced nuclear deployment.

Ronald Crone, Associate Director of the Materials and Fuels Complex at INL, said the collaboration will demonstrate how national laboratory assets can be leveraged by private industry to accelerate technology development.
