PayPal launches AI commerce services with Perplexity integration

October 28, 2025 6:45 AM

PayPal Inc. (NASDAQ: PYPL) announced the launch of agentic commerce services, a suite of solutions designed to enable merchant transactions through AI-powered shopping platforms. The services include partnerships with Wix, Cymbio, Commerce, and Shopware to facilitate product discovery on AI platforms including Perplexity.

The company introduced two primary components: "agent ready," an agentic payment solution that allows existing PayPal merchants to accept payments on AI surfaces, and "store sync," which makes merchant product data discoverable within AI channels while integrating with existing fulfillment systems.

The agent ready service provides fraud detection, buyer protection, and dispute resolution capabilities for conversational AI and browser-automated experiences without requiring additional technical integration from merchants. Store sync enables merchants to maintain their merchant of record status and retain control of brand visibility and customer communications for agent-initiated transactions.

Through a single PayPal integration, merchants can access multiple AI shopping surfaces. Initial platforms include Perplexity and PayPal's own shopping agent currently being tested in select markets within the PayPal app.

"AI is driving the next wave of innovation in how payments are made and managed," said Michelle Gill, GM of Small Business and Financial Services at PayPal. "Our agentic commerce services support leading payments protocols and AI platforms, directly connecting PayPal merchants to millions of consumers who are now using agent platforms for their day-to-day shopping needs."

Merchants can sign up for store sync immediately at PayPal.ai, with enrollment becoming available soon. Merchant discoverability on Perplexity will launch before year-end, while agent ready will become available in early 2026.
