August 14, 2025 2:26 PM

Investing.com -- The cyberattack on UnitedHealth Group’s technology unit Change Healthcare impacted 192.7 million people, according to information posted on the U.S. Health and Human Services’ website on Thursday.

This figure represents an increase from the company’s January estimate, which had placed the number of affected individuals at 190 million.

The breach, which was first disclosed in February 2024, stands as the largest healthcare data breach in U.S. history. Hackers identifying themselves as the "Blackcat" ransomware group infiltrated Change Healthcare’s systems, causing widespread disruptions in claims processing that affected patients and healthcare providers nationwide.

The updated number of impacted individuals appears on a list of data breaches maintained by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office for Civil Rights.
