American Express and Toast form partnership for restaurant technology

August 5, 2025 8:01 AM

American Express (NYSE: AXP) and Toast (NYSE: TOST) announced a multi-year strategic partnership to develop restaurant technology tools that combine dining reservation platforms with point-of-sale systems.

The partnership will integrate capabilities from American Express-owned reservation platforms Resy and Tock with Toast's Digital Chits technology, which displays customer information on restaurant staff devices during service. Product features are expected to begin rolling out in 2026.

Under the agreement, restaurants using Resy and Tock will have their listings made available on Toast's Local app alongside venues using Toast Tables. The companies plan to explore ways to offer benefits that enhance experiences for restaurant guests and American Express cardholders.

"Restaurants today deliver exceptional experiences with leaner teams and tighter margins, making intelligent, connected tools more essential than ever," said Pablo Rivero, SVP of American Express Global Dining and CEO of Resy and Tock.

Toast CEO Aman Narang said the collaboration aims to provide restaurants with expanded network access and technology to reach diners and drive guest demand.

American Express has made significant investments in dining technology, acquiring reservation platform Tock and dining technology platform Rooam in 2024. The Tock acquisition added 7,000 restaurants and venues to American Express's dining network, which already included 20,000 locations through Resy.

Alex Drummond, EVP and GM of American Express Membership Portfolio Services, noted that cardholders spent over $87 billion on dining in the U.S. in 2024.

Toast operates as a cloud-based restaurant technology platform providing point-of-sale, payments, operations, and marketing solutions to restaurants across various service models including dine-in, takeout, and delivery.
