Uber Eats adds Wegmans, Gopuff, Family Dollar to SNAP EBT program
Uber Eats (NYSE: UBER) announced that Wegmans, Gopuff and Family Dollar have joined its SNAP EBT program, allowing customers to use Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits for grocery and convenience purchases through the app.
The expansion brings the total number of participating retailers to over 60, including major chains such as 7-Eleven, CVS, Walgreens, Safeway, and Albertson's. Payments are processed through Forage, which serves as the USDA-approved third-party payment processor for the program.
EBT cardholders receive $0 delivery fees on their first three SNAP-eligible orders. Eligible customers can also access a limited-time free trial of Uber One, which includes $0 delivery fees on all eligible food and grocery orders.
"We believe that everyone deserves the convenience of delivery, and with this growing list of merchant partners we can continue to provide access to the fresh food that families and individuals need, especially those without access to reliable transportation for whom food delivery can be a lifeline," said Hashim Amin, Head of Grocery and Retail Delivery at Uber North America.
The company has added a SNAP icon in the app to help customers identify participating retailers and eligible products. Uber stated it plans to add more retailers to the program in the coming months.
According to the press release, 42 million Americans receive government assistance to afford groceries. Forage co-founder and CEO Ofek Lavian said the expansion gives SNAP recipients access to tens of thousands of new stores through the Uber Eats platform.
