Amazon (AMZN) names Matt Garman as CEO of AWS
Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) announced Tuesday that Matt Garman will become CEO of AWS, effective June 3rd. Adam Selipsky will step down after a three-year term.
Selipsky will leave the company after spending 14 years at AWS across two separate periods. He is set to leave the Amazon unit in a strong position, having reached a $100 billion annual revenue run rate this past quarter and seeing YoY revenue accelerate again.
While no specific reason was provided for Selipsky's departure from the business, he stated he would take the opportunity to spend more time with his family.
Meanwhile, Garman started as a MBA intern during the summer of 2005 and joined the company full-time in 2006 as one of the first AWS product managers.
Amazon CEO Andy Jassy explained that Garman initially worked across all of AWS and then became its first product manager for EC2 and led EC2 product management in its early formative years.
