We would expect further retail margin improvement in 2H'23 - BofA on Amazon (AMZN)
BofA analyst Justin Post on Amazon's (NASDAQ: AMZN) CEO Andy Jassy's CNBC interview: "Amazon CEO Andy Jassy was interviewed on CNBC on 7/6 and touched on topics including the shift to a regionalized logistics network in the US, Prime Video as a customer acquisition tool, the AI opportunity for AWS, and more. On logistics, Mr. Jassy reiterated that the transition to a regional network is enabling Amazon to be on track to deliver its fastest Prime shipping speeds ever in 2023. Mr. Jassy also commented that “faster speeds equal lower costs for us when we have the right underlying infrastructure [because] the transportation distances are shorter”. Most encouragingly, he added “we’re not close on the law of diminishing returns there yet”. Our take: Commentary suggests that more retail efficiencies are to come, and we would expect further retail margin improvement in 2H’23. We continue to see upside potential to 2024 Street retail margin estimates."
