Investing.com – U.S. stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Technology, Consumer Services and Healthcare sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.55%, while the S&P 500 index gained 0.75%, and the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 1.13%.

The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Nike Inc (NYSE: NKE), which rose 2.74% or 2.97 points to trade at 111.30 at the close. Meanwhile, Cisco Systems Inc (NASDAQ: CSCO) added 1.68% or 0.81 points to end at 48.99 and Boeing Co (NYSE: BA) was up 1.46% or 2.58 points to 179.08 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE: GS), which fell 0.51% or 1.84 points to trade at 358.08 at the close. American Express Company (NYSE: AXP) declined 0.45% or 0.70 points to end at 154.07 and Dow Inc (NYSE: DOW) was down 0.28% or 0.14 points to 50.56.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were SVB Financial Group (NASDAQ: SIVB) which rose 6.89% to 222.64, NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ: NVDA) which was up 6.51% to settle at 171.69 and Ceridian HCM Holding Inc (NYSE: CDAY) which gained 5.05% to close at 65.83.

The worst performers were Lincoln National Corporation (NYSE: LNC) which was down 10.88% to 31.44 in late trade, Avery Dennison Corp (NYSE: AVY) which lost 6.61% to settle at 179.09 and Aptiv PLC (NYSE: APTV) which was down 4.47% to 93.42 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Pharvaris BV (NASDAQ: PHVS) which rose 356.57% to 11.46, Rent the Runway Inc (NASDAQ: RENT) which was up 74.26% to settle at 2.37 and Qutoutiao Inc (NASDAQ: QTT) which gained 57.62% to close at 0.84.

The worst performers were Eiger Biopharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ: EIGR) which was down 69.53% to 1.17 in late trade, Relmada Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ: RLMD) which lost 47.84% to settle at 2.17 and Design Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ: DSGN) which was down 33.33% to 8.46 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1730 to 1343 and 122 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2150 rose and 1557 declined, while 193 ended unchanged.

Shares in Lincoln National Corporation (NYSE: LNC) fell to 52-week lows; down 10.88% or 3.84 to 31.44. Shares in Eiger Biopharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ: EIGR) fell to 5-year lows; falling 69.53% or 2.67 to 1.17. Shares in Relmada Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ: RLMD) fell to 5-year lows; down 47.84% or 1.99 to 2.17. Shares in Design Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ: DSGN) fell to all time lows; down 33.33% or 4.23 to 8.46.

The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 1.72% to 22.29.

Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.17% or 3.10 to $1,801.10 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.44% or 0.32 to hit $71.69 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 1.13% or 0.87 to trade at $76.30 a barrel.

EUR/USD was up 0.49% to 1.06, while USD/JPY rose 0.01% to 136.62.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.28% at 104.76.
