Netflix's (NASDAQ: NFLX) new mob movie 'The Irishman' had 17.1 million total unique viewers in the U.S. over its first five days of availability, according to data from Nielsen.

By comparison, Sandra Bullock's 'Bird Box' scored nearly 26 million U.S. viewers in its first seven days.

The Martin Scorsese film explores the life of hitman Frank Sheeran from the Bufalino crime family and his relationship and connection with the disappearance of legendary union boss Jimmy Hoffa. It stars Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, and Joe Pesci.

The average minute audience for 'The Irishman' was approximately 13.2 million viewers, versus 16.9 million for 'Bird Box' and 8.2 million for 'El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie'.

On its November 27 debut date, 'The Irishman' brought in 2.6 million U.S. viewers. This compared to 2.9 million for 'Bird Box' and 2.6 million for 'El Camino'.

The audience of the film skewed older and more male. On its premiere day, 20% of the viewing audience was comprised of men ages 50 to 64. By the end of the first five days, the median age of viewers was 49, similar to that of season 2 of The Crown (50) and older than that of the average Netflix program viewer (31).

On its premiere day, 751 thousand U.S. viewers P2+ (18% of the audience) watched the full movie. That’s about equal with the share of premiere day viewers who watched 'Bird Box' in its entirety (18%) and more than the premiere day viewers who watched 'El Camino' in its entirety (11%).

'The Irishman's' total runtime (210 minutes) was notably longer than that of 'Bird Box' (125 minutes) and 'El Camino' (123 minutes).
