Digital Government Transformation Services from Unisys to Help Commonwealth of Virginia Provide More Reliable, Secure and Efficient Services to Citizens

November 7, 2018 7:52 AM

BLUE BELL, Pa., Nov. 7, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Unisys Corporation (NYSE: UIS) today announced that the Virginia Information Technologies Agency (VITA) – a new client for Unisys – has selected the company to provide consumption-based server, storage and data center services to Virginia government executive branch agencies as part of an initiative to modernize services to citizens.

Valued at $242.4 million and signed in the third quarter of 2018, the contract will improve the reliability of the digital services the commonwealth provides to citizens by modernizing hardware, security and services, while shifting to a consumption-based pricing model.

VITA is the commonwealth's consolidated technology services and solutions provider responsible for the operation of the state's technology infrastructure, governance, security, oversight of major IT projects and procurement of technology-related goods and services on behalf of state and local governments.

"With the award of this contract, VITA has moved forward in its goal to modernize the Virginia's IT infrastructure," said Nelson Moe, chief information officer of the commonwealth. "We look forward to obtaining the innovation and efficiencies inherent in this new approach."

The contract allows for the introduction of new services over six years, improving the state's ability to deliver services to citizens more quickly, efficiently and with improved security through the use of innovative new products and services. For example, the Unisys proprietary Cloud Management Platform™, to provide end-to-end self-service to support applications on premise as well as in the cloud – making it easier for state workers and citizens to obtain the services they need.

The solution also will include the award-winning Unisys Stealth® identity-based, encrypted microsegmentation software as part of the security solution.

"By selecting Unisys, VITA moves forward with market pricing, reduced risk and a platform from which innovation and service excellence will be continuously delivered," said Michael Morrison, vice president and general manager for Unisys in the United States and Canada. "Unisys will bring a complete solution with a team of Virginia-based partners, an understanding of the requirements of the commonwealth, and a commitment to support VITA, its client agencies and the citizens of Virginia."

The contract was awarded as part of VITA's IT infrastructure services program to develop a next-generation IT sourcing strategy designed to position VITA to more effectively support the commonwealth's future technology needs. The program calls for VITA to move from a single-supplier, long-term contract to a multi-supplier environment to promote innovation, reliability and agility at market rates.

The Unisys team includes companies with a regional presence in the commonwealth such as Dell EMC, CGI Technologies and Solutions Inc., and AIS Network, contributing technologies to enable benefits for the commonwealth and its residents.

Forward Looking StatementsAny statements contained in this release that are not historical facts are forward-looking statements as defined in the Private Securities Litigation Reform Act of 1995. All forward-looking statements rely on assumptions and are subject to risks and uncertainties that could cause actual results to differ materially from expectations. In particular, statements in this release about the total value of the contract are based on the assumption that the government will exercise all option years, which is at the government's discretion, and that the base period and each option year will continue for its full term. In a consumption-based pricing contract, such as this one, the awarded value is an estimate of the charges that would be invoiced to the government by the contractor based on the government's stated requirements and the negotiated prices for services consumed by the government. Statements in this release about the total value of the contract assume that the government will consume services based on its stated requirements. Further because agreements with government agencies are terminable before the end of their terms and are subject to the availability of appropriated funds, there is no guarantee that the contract will continue for its full term. Additional discussion of factors that could affect Unisys future results is contained in periodic filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
