Online Public Charter School Offers Educational Alternative to Idaho Students

MERIDIAN, Idaho--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Idaho Virtual Academy (IDVA), an online public charter school, is now accepting enrollment applications for the 2018-19 school year. IDVA is open to students in kindergarten through 12th grade statewide.

Delivered entirely online, IDVA combines online instruction, rigorous curriculum and the support of state-credentialed teachers to provide a personalized experience for each student. IDVA students access a well-rounded online curriculum and attend live virtual classes. The school provides a distinctive approach to learning that helps prepare students for post-graduation college or career success.

Families choose to enroll in IDVA for a wide variety of reasons. Some are advanced learners, motivated to increase their knowledge beyond the basic course offerings, while others come to online school seeking a more personalized one-on-one learning environment for students seeking extra assistance. IDVA also provides a safe haven for students who may have had a negative experience at their previous schools. Regardless the reason, the innovative lessons with interactive technology combined with a strong partnership between families and teachers make it possible to focus on each student’s academic needs.

The school’s challenging and engaging curriculum includes courses in English/language arts, math, science, history, world languages and art, as well as other electives. IDVA offers a robust K-8 Advanced Learner Program and Advanced Placement® courses for high school students, who can also earn dual credit through local colleges and universities. In addition, IDVA offers an accredited alternative high school program, Vision High School, for students who meet state qualifications.

At IDVA, state-credentialed teachers provide instruction, guidance and support, interacting with students and parents via phone, email, web-based classrooms and online discussions. Teachers work closely with each student to develop an Individualized Learning Plan (ILP), allowing for greater support for students struggling with a topic of skill or for students to move on when they have mastered a subject.

“I appreciate that all the teachers are there to support my girls, whether they are excelling or having a rougher time with a subject or unit,” said Rebecca Klaeui, mother of two current IDVA students and a graduate. “The teachers are always available to help them succeed. We have received a lot of support when necessary with developing an individualized plan when it was clear that something was not working for one of the girls.”

In coordination with the local school districts, IDVA students may participate in extracurricular athletics and activities. IDVA also has a strong community with regular opportunities for students to connect through school events, field trips, online clubs, and social gatherings.

During the enrollment period, IDVA will host online and in-person information sessions throughout the state. To learn more about IDVA and for a complete list of events, please visit http://idva.k12.com.
