Statewide Online Public Charter School Offers Alternative to Traditional Brick-and-Mortar Education

MURRAY, Utah--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Utah Virtual Academy (UTVA), an accredited online public charter school, is now accepting enrollment applications for the 2018-19 school year. UTVA offers an alternative to a traditional brick-and-mortar education for students statewide in kindergarten through 12th grade.

UTVA combines online instruction, rigorous curriculum and the support of state-certified teachers to provide a personalized experience for each student. UTVA students attend live virtual classes and access a robust online curriculum provided by K12 Inc. The school provides a unique approach to learning that helps prepare students for post-graduation college or career success.

“At Utah Virtual Academy, our goal is simple: that every student succeeds,” said Meghan Merideth, head of school at UTVA. “I truly believe that students at UTVA graduate with a skillset unlike any others because of the dedication, the determination, the drive, the grit that you have to have to be a successful virtual student.”

The rigorous and engaging curriculum at UTVA includes courses in English/language arts, math, science, history, art and music, as well as six world languages and nearly 40 electives and Advanced Placement® courses for high school students.

The school has a robust Advanced Learner Program for younger students, and high schoolers can get ahead by earning college credits through in-person and online concurrent enrollment available at Salt Lake Community College, Snow College and Dixie State University.

UTVA also offers the Destinations Career Program, a career technical education (CTE) program which prepares full-time high school students for college and careers and provides them with relevant technical skills in two career fields – information technology and health sciences.

Students have the choice to enroll at UTVA full-time or remain in their local high school or homeschool setting and enroll through the Statewide Online Education Program in up to six full-year online courses from the K12 catalog.

Students choose online school for a variety of reasons, including advanced learning, a bullying-free environment and schedule flexibility to facilitate extracurricular pursuits or medical needs. UTVA’s online platform gives students the flexibility to pursue their academic goals in a supportive environment and at an appropriate pace for their learning style.

UTVA offers an active, supportive school community and a range of extracurricular activities, including student government and other clubs, as well as school field trips and social gatherings.

During the open enrollment period, UTVA will host in-person and online information sessions throughout the state. For more information and a list of events, please visit http://utva.k12.com/events-calendar.
