Mizuho Discusses Biogen (BIIB) Seizure Patient
Mizuho analyst Salim Syed discussed Biogen (NASDAQ: BIIB) Aducanumab's LTE seizure patient, which has the stock well off highs (+0.4%).
"On the seizure patient, we spoke to the company (they weren't willing to say much beyond the slide) ... this is a new potential safety issue though for the drug in our opinion that we need to learn more about," he commented.
Here is what we know for now:
1. There was one patient that suffered a seizure. This patient also had ARIA. Recall, this was a relatively small study, so the question here is if we should be expecting to see more in the Phase 3 study
2. Given the seizure occurred in a new ARIA case, and ARIA occurs early on drug, it was likely in a switcher in our view (company wasn't willing to confirm)
