Star Wars Said to Break Box Office Pre-Sale Records (DIS)

"Star Wars" has become the go-to franchise for sci-fi fanatics over the years and the upcoming move -- "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" (TFA) -- is already drawing high anticipation. And a lot of money. From everyone.
The WSJ, citing sources, said that TFA has set pre-release box office sales records. Some speculate that the movie has already grossed more than $50 million ahead of its debut.
Notably, TFA is the first "Star Wars" movie to be released since Disney (NYSE: DIS) acquired Lucasfilm in 2012.
TFA is slated for release on December 17th. Market watchers largely predict that the movie will break the opening weekend record of $209 million set by "Jurassic World" earlier this year.
The global box office record is still held by "Avatar," which recorded $2.79 billion of sales during its run.
Shares of Disney are indicated for a higher open Friday.
