Stand Up Amputee Basketball Team AMP1 Look to Defend Championship at “Duel in the Desert”

Inspirational Team to Demonstrate How State-of-the-Art Prosthetic Technology Enables Athletic Lives

PHOENIX--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- AMP1, the country’s leading team of stand-up (non-wheelchair) amputee basketball players is heading to Phoenix for some inspiring hoops at the “Duel in the Desert” tournament and a message of hope for all -- disabled or not.

With the help of high-tech prosthetics from sponsor Freedom Innovations, the AMP1 players have overcome lower limb amputations (due to traumatic accidents, birth defects and cancer) to go on and compete successfully against able-bodied, non-amputee teams in action-packed games at events such as the NIKE 3-on-3 tournament this past summer. This weekend they will face off against similarly inspirational teams of amputees featuring some of the best amputee basketball players in the world. AMP1’s message is one of sheer determination and hope for those who have lost a limb, and for anyone facing adversity.

AMP1 will play a series of games as part of in the Duel in the Desert 3ON3 tournament in an attempt to defend their crown on October 23rd and 24th. The event will take place at Ability360 with a showcase of adapted sports featuring Amputee Basketball, Wheelchair Basketball, Power Soccer, and Wheelchair Rugby.

The family friendly event is free of charge, and will take place at Virginia G. Piper Sports & Fitness Center for Persons with Disabilities 5031 E. Washington St., Phoenix, AZ 85034.

AMP1 team members utilize the Freedom Innovations’ Renegade Foot for its excellent vertical shock capabilities and comfort during these challenging games.
