GoPro (GPRO) Slumps as DJI Debuts Potential Camera Competitor
GoPro, Inc. (GPRO) may have seen some additional pressure today amid on new entrant into the mini, HD-camera market.
DJI debuted its OSMO today. THe OSMO is basically a robotic selfie stick, but it does pull double-duty as a 4K, handheld camera.
While the device is best used (or, every photo we've seen of the device has it used this way) with an extension rod hanging from the bottom of it, there are other accessories like a bicycle mount, universal mount, and tripod. Specifically, DJI offered the following spec rundown for the device:
- Fully stabilized 4K, 12Mp camera optimized for ground use
- Tripod-free long exposures
- Remote camera control
- Ergonomic, secure grip
- Suite of accessories including bike & car mount, tripod, extension stick and phone mount
The WSJ said the device compared with GoPro's Hero4 Black. But, while the Hero4 Black runs around $500 (sans accessories), the OSMO starts at $650.
Shares of GoPro ended the session down 6 percent.
