Apple (AAPL) Hires Another Auto Exec as Rumors Abound
Speculation that Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) might be making stronger moves within the auto industry is being bolstered by the latest company news.
According to market reports, Apple tapped Doug Betts, who led global quality at Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV until last year. Betts' LinkedIn profile affirms the move, but his title is simple "Operations - Apple, Inc."
Betts also worked at Toyota and Nissan in the past.
Earlier in 2015, Apple also hired Paul Furgale, who is a well-regarded autonomous vehicle researcher. Prior to joining Apple, Furgale was deputy director of the Autonomous Systems Lab at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology.
While Apple may not be looking to construct a full-fledged automobile, recent hires suggest that the company has high interest in the sector.
Shares of Apple are indicated higher early Tuesday.
