Microsoft's (MSFT) Windows 10 Not Expected to Spur Mass PC Upgrade Cycle
Microsoft's (Nasdaq: MSFT) Windows 10 won't be the savior that the PC world needs.
Digitmes, citing Taiwan-based ODMs, said that a large proportion of PC users simply use the device for web surfing and document processing and won't necessarily use the advanced features that Windows 10 provides.
ODMs claim consumers are shifting budgets to smartphones and tablets as there's no immediate demand to replace current PCs.
While mentioned in the article, but could be another determining factor, is that Microsoft is offering Windows 10 for free for the first year to Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 users. That might lead to upgrades of individual components (hard drives, RAM, etc.), but replacing an entire PC might not be the go-to course of action.
Key features of Windows 10 include the restoration of the Start Menu, Cortana smart voice assistant, new Microsoft Edge browser, Continuum technology, bio-sensor technology and Windows Hello,
Digitmes noted.
Share of Microsoft are nearly flat Wednesday as broader markets remain pressured.
