Chris Sacca's Twitter (TWTR) Comments 'Spot On', SunTrust's Peck Says

June 3, 2015 1:52 PM

Twitter (NYSE: TWTR) is on watch after Chris Sacca published his much anticipated blog post on product suggestions today: (http://lowercasecapital.com/cables/).

Commenting on the news, SunTrust's Robert Peck said: Importantly, the blog post is not a criticism of management, but more of a suggestion of product ideas. We think the vast suggestions are spot on, intuitive, and highlight the LT opportunity in front of Twitter if it executes. Mr. Sacca’s suggestions are particularly noteworthy given his background (he was a former Google executive and is an early investor in Twitter, Uber, Kickstarter, and Instagram among others). Further, he was a former advisor to Twitter and he currently runs the VC firm Lowercase Capital.

Peck said Sacca's product suggestions are logical and would increase utility.: While Mr. Sacca makes many thoughtful suggestions, he centers them around 3 themes that should ultimately increase the utility of Twitter: 1) Make Tweets effortless to enjoy; 2) Make it easier for everyone to participate; 3) Make each of us on Twitter feel heard / valuable. Addressing the difficulty of use of Twitter for some, he suggests 3 areas of product innovation: “Live, Channels, and a Save Button”. Addressing how intimidating Twitter can be to a new user, he makes several pertinent suggestions: a. Nudges (prompting users); b. Questions; c. Polls and other ideas to encourage engagement by users. Lastly, addressing users “feeling heard”, Mr. Sacca points to potential new functionality like: “Hearting” content; read receipts from celebrities; celebrity “thank you bombs”; and archiving Periscope content. Noteworthy, Mr. Sacca thinks Periscope may be the best acquisition the company has ever made.
