Wal-mart (WMT) Posts Q1 EPS of $1.03; U.S. Comps Rose 1.1%
Wal-mart (NYSE: WMT) reported Q1 EPS of $1.03, versus the analyst estimate of $1.05. Revenue for the quarter came in at $114.8 billion versus the consensus estimate of $116.3 billion.
*** Currency negatively impacted EPS by approximately $0.03.
- Walmart U.S. 1.1% comp includes positive traffic for the second consecutive quarter. (Consensus estimates called for a 1.5 percent gain.)
- Customer experience scores improved in all formats. Customers benefited from lower gas prices.
- E-commerce sales globally increased approximately 17%.
- Consolidated operating income declined 8.3%, due to impacts from currency fluctuations and investments in associate wages & training and e-commerce.
Wal-mart sees Q2 2016 EPS of $1.06-$1.18, versus the consensus of $1.17.
