Notable 52-Week Highs and Lows of the Day 05/18: (WMT) (VZ) High; (JASO) (CY) (GSS) Low

This report is an intraday check of some of the more notable stocks that have hit a 52-week high or low so far today.

52-Week High:
  • Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (NYSE: WMT) high of $62.63. Wal-Mart continuing higher from Thursday after issuing a first-quarter 2012 beat. After moving 4.2 percent higher Thursday, shares are up an additional 1.5 percent on today's session.

  • Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE: VZ) high of $41.96. Verizon getting an initial boost on the session by Nomura, which bumped its price target up $5 to $42 earlier.
52-Week Low:
  • JA Solar Holdings Co., Ltd. (Nasdaq: JASO) low of $0.91. JA Solar and others in the sector getting hit today following word yesterday that the U.S. set anti-dumping tariffs on Chinese solar companies to the tune of 31.22 percent. Any anti-dumping tariffs would be in addition to anti-subsidy tariffs of 2.9 percent to 4.73 percent that the department imposed in March on solar panels from China.

  • Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (Nasdaq: CY) low of $12.50. Earlier, UBS downgraded Cypress from Buy to Neutral, cutting its price target from $19 down to $13.75. The firm cited continuing SRAM recovery weakness on the call. For more color, click here.

  • Golden Star Resources, Ltd. (AMEX: GSS) low of $1.14. Golden Star said it entered into a Purchase and Exchange Agreements with certain holders of the Company's 4.00% Convertible Senior Unsecured Debentures due November 30, 2012.

    Pursuant to the terms of the Purchase Agreements, the Company will purchase an aggregate of $74,510,000 principal amount of Original Debentures from the Holders in exchange for the issuance of approximately $77,490,400 aggregate principal amount of 5.00% Convertible Senior Unsecured Debentures due June 1, 2017. After purchasing and cancelling the $74,510,000 aggregate principal amount of Original Debentures, $50,490,000 aggregate principal amount of Original Debentures will remain outstanding.
