On June 3, 2021, Sabre Corporation (“Sabre,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) provided the following key volume metrics update:
Global travel trends continue to be reflective of COVID-19 case counts, cumulative and daily vaccination rates and regional travel restrictions. As COVID-19 vaccines continued to be administered, we saw continued sequential improvement in our key volume metrics in May 2021 versus April and the first quarter of 2021. The improvement in our key volume metrics continued to be largely driven by recovery trends in domestic leisure travel.
Our gross air bookings were down approximately 62% and net air bookings were also down approximately 62% in May 2021 versus May 2019. Passengers boarded were down approximately 44% in May 2021 versus May 2019. The strongest improvement remains in hotel bookings, with gross hotel central reservation system transactions down approximately 35% in May 2021 versus May 2019.
The decline in our key volume metrics versus 2019 levels is summarized in the chart below.
7-Day moving average; calendar shifted; CRS transactions are community model only; data through May 31, 2021.
