Weed Science Society Meetings Will Focus on New Technologies, New Research and Regulatory Landscape

The Weed Science Society of America (WSSA) and its affiliated weed science societies will use their upcoming annual meetings to highlight the latest research and developments for managing weeds and invasive plants. The meetings are expected to draw a wide range of scientists, students, educators and other individuals interested in sustainable weed management and conservation of our natural resources.

The WSSA's annual meeting will be January 29-February 1, 2018, at the Crystal Gateway Marriott in Arlington, Virginia. In addition to hundreds of weed science posters and presentations, six special symposia are scheduled:

  • Fostering Sustainable Programs to Improve Pesticide Applications and Promote Resistance Management
  • Grade Report for New Dicamba Technology
  • Pesticide Registration in the U.S. and How the WSSA Can Inform the Process
  • Herbicide Metabolism in Crops and Weeds: A Revisit, Current Understanding and New Insights
  • The State of the Weed Control Industry
  • Learning by Listening: Herbicide Resistance Listening Sessions
Other highlights include a weed science teaching workshop, a special breakfast for women in weed science, and a career workshop and other events especially tailored for students. Pre-conference activities include tours of both the U.S. Botanic Garden and the Botany Department at the National Museum of Natural History. For the first time, the WSSA annual meeting registration fee will include a free one-year membership in the Society. In addition, discounted rates are available for early-bird registration.   • Canadian Weed Science Society/Soci�té canadienne de malherbologie (CWSS-SCM) Meeting, November 20-23, 2017
CWSS will hold its annual meeting in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, at the Radisson Saskatoon. The plenary session entitled "Revolutionizing Weed Science with New Technologies" will focus on the use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and digital imagery in weed research, crop consulting and industry. Afterwards, interactive sessions are planned on new technologies and on managing resistant weeds in agriculture. A wide range of additional learning opportunities are on the agenda, including regulatory reports, discussions of weed management in various crops, and a session on the biology and ecology of invasive and noxious weeds.   • North Central Weed Science Society (NCWSS), December 4-7, 2017
NCWSS will convene its annual meeting in St. Louis, Missouri, at the Hyatt Regency St. Louis at the Arch. Meeting details are posted at http://ncwss.org/annual-meeting.
  • Northeastern Weed Science Society (NEWSS), January 9-11, 2018
NEWSS will hold its annual meeting in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, as part of the Northeastern Plant, Pest and Soils Conference. The event will be held at the Hilton Philadelphia at Penn's Landing. Meeting details can be found at http://www.newss.org/meeting.
  • Southern Weed Science Society (SWSS), January 21-24, 2018
