Puyallup, WA based Unlocking The Body Massage Therapy (UTB) is pleased to announce that they now offer flotation therapy to residents in the area. Unlocking The Body, which is a fully equipped day spa, introduced the therapy method as part of their mission to ensure they provide their clients with a wide range of high quality services. UTB is currently the only spa providing flotation therapy in Puyallup.
Flotation therapy is meant to help people recover from stress and injuries, fight addiction, eliminate chronic pain, decrease inflammation, fight anxiety, and help in either curing or decreasing the suffering caused by a variety of other issues. Studies show that floating increases one’s dopamine and endorphin levels, which can boost one’s mood and leave a pleasant ‘afterglow’ for days following the therapy session. Without having to fight gravity in order to stay standing or take in sounds and sights and smells, one can achieve the highest levels of relaxation.
“Everything you experience while floating comes from within yourself,” says UTB. “It’s the perfect time to do nothing, reflect on your life, or have creative and personal insight time. Float tanks can also be thought of as training wheels for meditation. After about 30-45 minutes of floating, your mind starts producing theta brainwaves, which are responsible for that ‘between waking and sleeping’ state. After years of practice, people can enter theta state through deep meditation. Float tanks get you there with hardly any effort at all.”
Flotation therapy has seen a rapid increase in popularity over the past few years. It involves floating in a tank of salt water that is completely soundproof and dark or dimly lit, with sensory deprivation being the goal. Sessions last between sixty and ninety minutes in Unlocking The Body’s 6’ by 9’ custom, glass-enclosed float pool. The pool is filled with about 250 gallons of solution, approximately 12’’ deep, and uses 1200 pounds of dissolved Epsom salts to help clients float as though they are weightless. UTB offers a number of different options, allowing clients to choose their preferred room temperature, water temperature, and other comfort options free of charge. They boast access to the sole float tank in Puyallup.
“If you have ever been too cold, hot, or cannot seem to get into a comfortable position this can deter you from future floating and quitting before you have really experienced the benefits of float therapy,” says UTB. By allowing clients to not only choose their preferred temperatures—and even what kind of sound they’d like, from total silence like traditional sensory deprivation sessions but also a personalized selection of music—UTB makes it possible for each individual to create an ideal float therapy experience for themselves.
To help clients figure out their preferences, UTB has a 3-float package available to first-time visitors, which gives those who are new to the whole experience a chance to figure out what their preferred floating environment is. Unlocking The Body is open seven days a week for floating but only has enough room for a set number of personalized experiences each day. The therapy center is also willing to provide, at no charge, swim caps, underwater headphones, combs, hair ties, and many other amenities usually only available for a fee at other facilities. UTB states that, “We want to let you try options to find what works best for you without a huge additional expense.”
As the only float facility in Puyallup, UTB works to ensure that their float pools remain as clean as possible. “UTB is the only Float Facility in Puyallup, currently, and the only Float Facility in Pierce County to be approved for an extra level of purification in our Float Pool,” asserts the therapy center. “We use Ozone to help with our sanitization in addition to UV and filtration systems, maintaining high standards for a sanitary environment each time you float.”
