The Sodhani Foundation and Gift Hero Partner to Fit-up New Space for GRLZ Radio

BOSTON, Oct. 24, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- A substantial donation from the Sodhani Foundation is now enabling GRLZ Radio, a youth leadership and development program, to expand its capacity and double the number of participants.

To make this expansion possible, the Sodhani Foundation donated funds to renovate space at St. Mary's Center for Women and Children in Dorchester, MA. The Foundation worked with Boston-based interior designer, Robin Adams, who donated her design skills to the project.

"The new space we've worked to create is a sanctuary of empowerment for these girls," said Seema Sodhani Pandya, who is a Director at her family's foundation. "We used the majority of funds for large ticket items like carpet, paint, and computers, but there was more to be done in properly furnishing and outfitting the space, and so engaged Gift Hero to complete the vision."

Boston-area startup, Gift Hero, is making it possible to enable supporters to buy items for the program in lieu of donating money. "People want to donate to a cause like this, but don't know where to start.  Gift Hero gives people a chance to donate a gift and ship it directly to the program.  Being able to give gifts directly to an organization, like GRLZ Radio, is a core part of our company's values," CEO Suvendu Pal says.

Since 2003, GRLZ Radio has affected hundreds of young women's lives. The organization works to build job skills and leadership by training teen girls in all aspects of outreach, radio production, and journalism. The outcomes of this innovative model have been highly successful, with 100% of the participants graduating from high school and going on to college.

"A lot of these girls come from really tough situations at home," said GRLZ Radio Program Director Saun Green.  "This new space does more than reach twice the number of students, it sends a message to these teen girls that they deserve a safe, modern environment to develop their confidence and leadership stance."
