Post -Election Analysis Shows that African American Voters in districts targeted by CBC PAC IE effort voted 91 percent for Democrats, five points ahead of national average in House races

CBC PAC endorsed candidates won in 19 of 28 districts targeted

WASHINGTON, Dec. 1, 2022 /PRNewswire/ -- A post-election poll of voters in the 28 districts where the Congressional Black Caucus PAC IE ran a multi-media effort aimed at mobilizing African American voters, and sporadic African American voters indicates that African Americans voted 91 percent for Democrats, five points ahead of the national average of 86 percent of African American voters in House races. The campaign included digital and radio ads in support of CBC endorsed candidates as well as print ads in black newspapers and a robust social media campaign in support of Democrats.  Districts where an increase in African American voter turnout could help Democrats win were targeted. The CBC endorsed candidates won in 19 of the 28 districts that were targeted, four of which were pick-ups for Democrats. According to the poll, over half – 55 percent – said that they "heard a lot" about the Democratic candidate in the race, with 72 percent saying that what they heard made them "more likely" to vote for the Democrat.

Overview of Post-Election poll Findings:

• Defining the Choice between the candidates mattered:
• Over half - 55 percent - said that they "heard a lot" about the Democratic candidate in the race, with 72 percent saying that what they heard made them "more likely" to vote for the Democrat.
• Comparatively over half – 52 percent - said that they "heard a lot" about the Republican candidate with 71 percent saying that what they heard about the Republican candidate made them less likely to support them.
• African Americans are not single-issue voters:
• Protecting abortion rights (43%), threats to democracy (18%), fighting inflation (23%), protecting voting rights (18%) and combatting racism and discrimination (15%) were the top issues in deciding which candidate to vote for.
• Top reasons cited for not supporting the Republican candidate in the race included opposition to reproductive freedom (27%), disagreement on their position on issues (18%), concerns about character (12%) and support of Trump and election deniers (10%).
• Top concerns and beliefs were: 92% agree racism against Black people is a big problem in today's society, 92% agree big corporations and the wealthy have too much political power, 83% agree American democracy is under threat, 82% agree income inequality is a big problem, and 83% agree it's getting increasingly harder for working Americans to get ahead.
• Values Matter:
• Shared values (23%) were important in making these voters more likely to vote for democrats as well as protecting reproductive rights, (16%), support for democracy (13%) and a belief that Democrats in Congress have done a good job
