FedEx (FDX) Boosts Surcharge Once Again Ahead of Holiday Shopping Season

October 6, 2015 8:26 AM EDT

FedEx (NYSE: FDX) is said to be bumping its surcharge for the second time this year ahead of the 2015 holiday shopping season.

The WSJ noted that it would cost an additional $170 to ship 100 shoeboxes overnight from New York to Atlanta. That follows a $67 increase last February.

United Parcel Service (NYSE: UPS) has a surcharge which would add about $200 for the same shipment.

FedEx noted the shipment of heavier packages and more residential deliveries (which eat up more fuel) as reasons behind the boost.
