Costco (NASDAQ: COST) isn’t raising the price of its hotdog combo. The price of the meal -- which includes a beverage and the infamous sausage -- will remain $1.50, according to a company official.
Rumors about the increase of the hotdog combo price circulated on Twitter recently, and it stirred up a great deal of angst, as consumers continue to fret about rising food prices and other types of inflation.
Costco has offered the $1.50 combo since its inception, and it has become a symbol of value for members of the wholesale club.
"Let me just say the price when we introduced the hot dog/soda combo in the mid-'80 was $1.50. The price today is $1.50, and we have no plans to increase the price at this time," said Costco's Head of Investor Relations, Robert Nelson.
Confirmation that the rumor isn’t true will be a relief for Costco members. The U.S. government’s chief inflation-fighter, Chairman of the Federal Reserve, Jerome Powell, is also likely breathing a sigh of relief.
Ending the $1.50 Costco hotdog combo would have been a symbolic causality, a lost battle in the Fed’s ongoing war on inflation. For now, the line has held.
