UPDATE: Kroger Co. (KR) Tops Q1 EPS by 5c; Boosts FY12 EPS Outlook; Approves $1B Buyback

Kroger Co. (NYSE: KR) reported Q1 EPS of $0.78, $0.05 better than the analyst estimate of $0.73. Revenue for the quarter came in at $29.1 billion versus the consensus estimate of $29.14 billion.

Identical supermarket sales, without fuel, increased 4.2%.

Kroger Co. sees FY2012 EPS of $2.33-$2.40, versus prior guidance of $2.28-$2.38 and the consensus of $2.32.

The Board approved a new $1 billion buyback plan.
