Notable ETF Movers of the Day 09/27: (GDXJ) (GLD) (SLV) (FXI) Higher; (TLT) Lower
Gainers:
Market Vectors Junior Gold Miners ETF (NYSE: GDXJ) gained 4.13 percent to 24.7 as precious metals pared losses from early in the week. Among the winner was Silvercorp Metals Inc. (NYSE: SVM), which has a 2.8 percent weighting in GDXJ. It gained 5.5 percent. Several precious metals related ETFs also saw gains, including SPDR Gold Shares (NYSE: GLD), and iShares Silver Trust (NYSE: SLV).
iShares FTSE China 25 Index Fund (NYSE: FXI) gained 2.5 percent on reports of additional China stimulus. A Shanghai Securities News report said the government there may announce additional market-boosting measures. China recently gave the green light on $150 billion in infrastructure spending. China reports did not specify what the new measures, if approved, would target, but an announcement is expected shortly after China National day on Oct. 1st.
Decliners:
iShares Barclays 20+ Year Treasury Bond (NYSE: TLT) declined 0.9 percent as investors pulled money out of U.S. treasures bonds. Yields on the U.S. 10-year bond rose to 1.65 percent. Today’s decline in yields reverses yesterday’s gains which came on the heels of protests in Spain and Athens that triggered new euro zone concerns.
