Nvidia to build AI supercomputers entirely in U.S. for the first time

Investing.com -- Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) said on Monday it is working with partners to design and build factories that will manufacture AI supercomputers entirely in the U.S. for the first time.

In an official statement, the tech giant said it has secured more than one million square feet of manufacturing space to produce and test its Blackwell AI chips in Arizona and build supercomputers in Texas.

Production of Blackwell chips has begun at TSMC’s facilities in Phoenix, while supercomputer plants are being developed with Foxconn (SS:601138) in Houston and Wistron in Dallas. Mass production at both Texas sites is expected to begin within 12 to 15 months.

To support packaging and testing operations, Nvidia is partnering with Amkor (NASDAQ: AMKR) and SPIL in Arizona. The AI chip and supercomputing supply chain, the company said, requires the most advanced manufacturing, packaging, and testing technologies.

"Within the next four years, NVIDIA plans to produce up to half a trillion dollars of AI infrastructure in the United States through partnerships with TSMC, Foxconn, Wistron, Amkor and SPIL," the company said. "These world-leading companies are deepening their partnership with NVIDIA, growing their businesses while expanding their global footprint and hardening supply chain resilience."

Nvidia described its AI supercomputers as the backbone of a new generation of data centers dedicated to artificial intelligence—“AI factories” that will underpin a rapidly growing industry.

Tens of gigawatt-scale AI factories are expected in the coming years. Domestic production of these systems is projected to generate hundreds of thousands of jobs and contribute trillions of dollars to long-term economic security.

“The engines of the world’s AI infrastructure are being built in the United States for the first time,” said Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of Nvidia. “Adding American manufacturing helps us better meet the incredible and growing demand for AI chips and supercomputers, strengthens our supply chain and boosts our resiliency.”

Nvidia also plans to deploy its own AI technologies to help design and operate these facilities, using digital twin software via NVIDIA Omniverse and robotics through NVIDIA Isaac GR00T.
