A car crash involving a Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) car killed two people in Spring, Texas the local officials said today. The car crashed into a tree before it burst into flames to kill two people.
The investigation conducted by the police shows “no one was driving” a 2019 Tesla car when the accident took place. One person was sitting in the passenger seat at the front and one in the rear passenger seat, the police said.
The local police believe that no human was driving a car, which was traveling at a high speed. It appears that the car owner, who was found dead in the rear passenger seat, likely moved to the back just to crash a few hundred yards down the road.
The car was engulfed in flames for hours as authorities used 32,000 gallons of water to extinguish the flames. At one point, Tesla representatives were contacted to seek help on how to put out the fire in the battery.
Two months ago, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said:
“I think Autopilot’s getting good enough that you won’t need to drive most of the time unless you really want to.”
Many Tesla car owners posted videos on social media showing people driving hands-free for prolonged periods.
“The currently enabled features require active driver supervision and do not make the vehicle autonomous,” Tesla writes in a manual to new car owners.
