Everyone Wants To Go To Disneyland: Long Delays on Disney (DIS) Parks Website Ahead of April 30 Opening

April 16, 2021 8:40 AM EDT

Last month, Disney (NYSE: DIS) announced plans to reopen its theme parks on April 30. The plan is to have them operated at a limited capacity of 15%.

It seems that everyone wants to go to Disneyland now as the demand for tickets is overwhelming, judging from the long waits to access the Disney Parks website yesterday.

“The wait is almost over. Thank you for your continued patience! Due to high demand, this is taking longer than expected. We have a lot of Guests accessing our system, so you are now in a waiting room to plan your park visit,” the message on the website said shortly after tickets were up for sale at 8 AM.

The waiting time was more than an hour as visitors look forward to getting out of their houses and visit popular theme parks. The company is due to open a new park called “Avengers Campus” on June 4.

“We are experiencing high demand, given the historic nature of the Disneyland Resort’s reopening. To deliver a strong guest experience, we are deliberately pulsing guests through the system and, therefore, wait times may be several hours or more depending on when you joined the queue. We still have plenty of reservation availability and we plan to keep the system open through the night to accommodate the demand,” Disney said in the statement.

Disney CEO Bob Chapek previously hinted at a strong demand for a return to theme parks.

“We’ve seen the enthusiasm, the craving for people to return to our parks around the world. We’ve been operating at Walt Disney World for about nine months, and there certainly is no shortage of demand,” he told CNBC last month.

“I think as people become vaccinated, they become a little bit more confident in the fact that they can travel, and, you know, stay Covid-free. Consumers trust Disney to do the right thing, and we’ve certainly proven that we can [open] responsibly, whether it’s temperature checks, masks, social distancing, [or] improved hygiene around the parks.”
