Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) Glass might not be a hit with regulators and consumers yet, but one analyst sees strong potential for the mobile computing device.
Piper Jaffray's Gene Munster thinks Google might be able to sell 2 million units of Google Glass in 2014, which would be the first year of availability. He sees an average selling price (ASP) of $500 to $700 per unit.
At the midpoint of the expected price range, Google Glass could boost sales by 1 percent to 2 percent next year, Munster notes.
Though the transition might be 3 to 5 years off, Munster thinks a product like Google Glass might be able to completely replace smartphones.
Piper Jaffray has Google at Overweight with a price target of $935.
One of the big issues with Google Glass by federal regulators has been the privacy issue. Some question how a users data will be protected and, given recent advances in technology, how someone caught on the devices embedded camera won't be subject to facial recognition.
