Wachovia ratings Frankly Ashford appears to be on sounder footing financially than Wachovia. I had rather own Ashfords stock than Wachovia right now. Make one wonder if some of these banks attempt to run the stock down in order to get it more cheaply....

MTN I am short this stock, 200 shares as of 7/14/08. I've looked MTN over well before shorting it. The shorts account for 18% of the float. The reason aside from the economy is that there are some serious demographic obstacles to maintaining the business paradigm necessary for MTN continued hyper-existence apart from the cruel reality of 21st Century America. First, the Boomers are now all too old to ski anymore. I'm a young Boomer and I have fallen down just walking twice in the last two years. And mean I seriously injured myself too! I'm certainly never hitting the slopes again. Forget it! Second, Colorado, and all these ski resorts have become havens for hard drug abusers, and human hustlers, which never bodes well for any future macro or micro. The prospects for Vail look to me like the same as they were for Haight-Ashbury when drugs and hustle took it down, or Greenwich Village earlier than that. I read recently fully a third of all NYC women have herpes. What? If that doesn't explain something about the negative effects of living in the fast lane, then tell me I'm just stupid but a women with herpes is no different than a woman with the plague in my book. Vail, Colorado with all its drugs and hustle and really ALL these mezmerising fantasy lands are no different than NYC when it comes to lifestyle. Sure the views from the tall buildings are slightly more organic. These still are no longer places where you might conscientiously turn your kids loose for a weekend romp if you want to get them back in one piece. The world has changed, economically, demographically and ethically. And MTN has simply life-styled itself out of any viable economic existence for all but the likes of Britney Spears and her looney sister. It's probably better to stay home and count tattoos at the local mall.
