NXP Semi (NXPI) 'Will Not Comment' on Qualcomm (QCOM) Speculation

NXP Semiconductors (Nasdaq: NXPI) commented on chatter that it and Qualcomm (Nasdaq: QCOM) could be in merger talks.

One rep for the NXP Semi told StreetInsider, We have a policy to not comment on rumors or speculation.

Shares of NXP Semi are up over 15 percent late Thursday.

NXP Semiconductors explores sale to Qualcomm: sources

(Reuters) - NXP Semiconductors NV (NASDAQ: NXPI) is exploring selling itself to Qualcomm Inc (NASDAQ: QCOM) in a deal that could be valued at more than $30 billion, two sources familiar with the matter said on Thursday.

The deal would help diversify Qualcomm's business and make it a bigger supplier to the automotive industry. Talks are in the early stages and NXP may entertain other offers, should they emerge, according to one of the sources.
