Tesla (Nasdaq: TSLA) wants to make sure people know that it has a major factory in Fremont, California.
There's no better way than giant signage to get that point across.
Reports out Wednesday have Tesla proposing a 200 x 40 foot illuminated sign, which would be perched 30-feet high outside the company's Fremont facility. Fremont Mayor Bill Harrison told Mercury News, It's big, but I think it's important for people to see that Tesla is here in Fremont ... I support them branding themselves and them putting it out there that we're the home of Tesla.
One Tesla rep, when asked why the signage was needed, said, Why do people put billboards anywhere ... Come to Thursday's meeting and see why.
Shares of Tesla are lower in early trading Thursday.
