GT Advanced Technologies (Nasdaq: GTAT) is on watch following a mention by Digitimes on Friday.
The report has GTAT supplying Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) with enough sapphire crystal to make 1.35 to 2.25 million iPhones with 5.5-inch displays by the end of 2014.
Production is expected to have started this month and revenue contributions are likely to be recognized in Q414. Large scale production is also not expected to be reached before Q414.
Cost for the 5.5-inch panels is expected to be $100 apiece, which far overshadows the estimated $5 to $10 cost for Corning's (NYSE: GLW) Gorilla glass.
Shares of GTAT are flat in early trading, while Apple is slightly lower.
