eBay (EBAY) Goes on Offensive to Take Business From Amazon (AMZN)

March 19, 2013 3:16 PM EDT
eBay (Nasdaq: EBAY) is going outside its comfort zone to gain a little traction against e-commerce rival Amazon.com (Nasdaq: AMZN).

Pointed out by TechCrunch, eBay is offering free listings for stores and non-stores for the first time in its history.

Previously, eBay charges a 50 cent "insertion fee" along with various fee levels depending on the price of the item being sold. Not, eBay now has a flat 10 percent fee capped at $250 for non-store sellers. Non-store sellers will also get 50 free listings if using auction-only or buy-it-now features. There will be a 30 cent per listing charge over 50.

Anchor stores will see an annual subscription fee with up to 2,500 free listings per month. For the complete structure, click here.

eBay is really pushing to bring over some merchants from Amazon. It even has a detailed chart showing the difference in fees between eBay and Amazon, though PayPal is not included in the calculation.

Shares of Amazon are making a move higher Tuesday afternoon, still down 0.6 percent.
