Nokia (NYSE: NOK) is seeing a little bit of pressure Tuesday amid the introduction of another rival smartphone.
Taiwan-based HTC debuted its new flagship One smartphone today, with much of the tech blog-o-sphere taking notice. The device will run Google's (Nasdaq: GOOG) Android operating system, have a 4.8-inch Super LCD display, a Qualcomm (Nasdaq: QCOM) Snapdragon 1.7-GHz quad-core processor, and more.
One interesting aspect of HTCs new device is that camera. Instead of getting caught up in the megapixel race, HTC is using a smaller 4-MP camera. The firm hopes that consumers will see it as an improvement on image quality over anything else.
Nokia has been selling its Microsoft's (Nasdaq: MSFT) Windows Phone 8-based Lumia devices for a while now, garnering some solid results in the process. However, Nokia is planning to incorporate its 41-MP PureView technology onto the next round of Lumia devices, according to several recent reports.
Should investors see the HTC One as a threat to Nokia? Sure, any new Android device might take some market share away from Nokia. Given the current market of Android smartphones -- some boasting 5.5-inch displays -- it's unlikely that the HTC One will be a paradigm shift for the segment.
Shares of Nokia are down 0.5 percent.
