Sales of Ford Motor's (NYSE: F) Focus compact car are the best in its class worldwide, the company said today. It's sub-compact Fiesta is also taking the honor for its class.
With one day left in that Focus registrations with 737,856 globally and Fiesta registrations were at 560,061.
Investors have been leery of consumer taste shifting to smaller vehicles; automakers generally can charge more for larger vehicles that don't cost that much more to make.
Unlike before, however, Ford is now using the Focus moniker in all markets, a cost-savings for the company that has been paying off in recent quarters.
Competition for the Focus and Fiesta comes from the likes of Toyota (NYSE: TM) Matrix and Yaris, while General Motors (NYSE: GM) has the Cruze and Aveo (Spark).
Shares are lower in early trading.
