Microsoft (MSFT) Doubled Windows Phone Apps in FY12, Market Exposure Rose 5x (NOK)

Nokia (NYSE: NOK), HTC, and other smartphone OEMs might be getting a reason to smile this holiday season.
According to a post on Microsoft's (Nasdaq: MSFT) Windows Phone Developer Blog by Todd Brix, Senior Director for Windows Marketplace, Windows Phone's app catalog more than doubled with the addition of 75,000 new apps in 2012.
In addition, Brix noted that Windows Phone users have downloaded 54 apps on average throughout the year.
He also noted that Windows Phone is in 191 markets now, up from 35 at the start of 2012. That's a five-fold increase.
On developers, Brix said, "Even though Windows Phone 8 just started shipping in the last 7 weeks and most developers are still creating new or updated Windows Phone 8 apps, we have already seen an increase in developer revenue month over month, up 40% in the 30 days since the SDK release. We anticipate that to grow with new hardware sales and as apps with the new capabilities like in-app purchase begin to reach customers."
Microsoft and Nokia are both lower on the session Thursday.
