Are Amazon (AMZN) and Barnes & Noble (BKS) Tablets Overpriced?

Given how young the market is, getting a quality tablet PC for less than $100 seems like a far-fetched concept. Most decent devices start at $140 and $200 could easily be a starting-point for most consumers.
According to the WSJ, the Taiwan-based electronics giant might be on track to release a $99 tablet in the coming months to compete more wholly with the likes of Amazon (Nasdaq: AMZN), Barnes & Noble (NYSE: BKS), and Google (Nasdaq: GOOG).
Tentatively named the Iconia B1, the tablet will boast a 1024 x 600 resolution display and 1.2-gigahertz dual-core processor.
Priced a $99, Acer's new device will be about 30 percent cheaper than Barnes & Noble's NOOK and about 38 percent lower than the cheapest Amazon Kindle Fire.
Acer filed an application with the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for approval to sell the device in the U.S., though there is not guarantee it will pass. The tablet is designed more for emerging markets rather than a mature one like the U.S.
Shares of Amazon are flat in early trading Monday.
